MEN MINISTRIES

Emergency Shelter
The Mission’s Emergency Shelter Program provides short-term shelter (usually one to 90 days), food and casework to help homeless men get established in the community. The overall goal of this program is to help the homeless to improve their quality of life and become self-sufficient.

Long Term Programs
To appease the need for food and shelter without also providing spiritual nourishment is like sending these fragile souls into a wilderness, well-fed but without a compass. The individuals who cross our threshold are spent in every sense of the word. Utterly defeated, it’s safe to say their hearts are even emptier than their stomachs. While Open Door Rescue Mission is committed to efficiently reassimilating these people back into society, we are doubly committed to instilling them with a saving knowledge of Jesus Christ before they brace an indifferent world again. Only Jesus can give them the strength to avoid the habits and behaviors that may have landed them at the Mission in the first place. Only Jesus, ultimately, brings the ingredients essential to richer, more successful living: Faith, Hope and Love. It’s our firm belief that a million free meals will never feed the soul like such simple and eternal truths.

LifeSkills Discipleship Program
LifeSkills Discipleship Program is a five-month residential program designed for men who are interested in learning the skills necessary to become stable and independent. Participants will obtain a foundation in God’s Word and knowledge of biblical living.

Transitional Housing Program
The concept behind this area of ministry is to provide continued accountability at a reduced housing cost for participation. The Transitional Housing units are located on the 2nd and 3rd floor of the our Men's home located at 3434 McDougall and the 2nd floor of our main facility located at 3442 McDougall. The rent is on a sliding scale to increase as clients reach a more stable income level. Our goal is to provide assistance while equipping them to be on their own.

OUR Ultimate Goal
The metaphors for a rescue mission are almost cliché - a safe harbor, a storm shelter, a refuge, cocoon, nest. The on telling constant of all those images, though, is their temporary nature. It is an intentional and deliberate goal that people learn that the Open Door Rescue Mission entrance is also a beautiful exit. Our philosophy is that it is understood the important distinction between Christian nurturing and complacent coddling. Our intensive, innovative programs aim to send individuals back into the real world with real confidence, real skills, and real potential as renewed children of God.

Our Daily Bread
For I was an hungred, and ye gave me meat: I was thirsty, and ye gave me drink: I was a stranger, and ye took me in: Naked, and ye clothed me: I was sick, and ye visited me: I was in prison, and ye came unto me.

Matthew 25:35-36
